Last Friday, SLEEK rolled out the red carpet to celebrate the European premiere of Uppercut, the latest cinematic triumph by director Torsten Ruether. The night was highly anticipated, as Berlin’s creative elite and luminaries from the film industry gathered at Kulturbrauerei for a screening that promised to pack as much punch as the film itself.
Uppercut tells the story of Toni, a determined young woman who sneaks into the boxing studio of the legendary Elliott, desperate to convince him to train her. With ambition and relentless spirit, she fights not just in the ring but against the obstacles life throws at her—a tale of resilience that resonated with the audience from the very first frame.

As the guests arrived, the red carpet transformed into a spectacle, teeming with stars, directors, and Berlin’s most creative minds. The cameras flashed, photographers were shouting to get noticed and the energy was palpable. Among the attendees was the cast including Luise Großmann and Hollywood icons Ving Rhames and Joanna Cassidy, who flew in from Los Angeles despite the wildfires raging back home. Cassidy took the stage, delivering a speech addressing the impact the fires have on LA and the people living there.
Before the lights dimmed for the main event, Emmy-renowned singer Steph Payne took center stage. Her soulful voice filled the theater, weaving magic into the night with a performance that was as heartfelt as it was powerful.

After the movie, the celebration was far from over. Guests made their way on foot to the Oderberger Hotel, where an after-party awaited. The historic swimming pool had been transformed into an event space, its shimmering blue depths now a dance floor where the night continued in full swing. Conversations flowed as freely as the music, with guests mingling, laughing, and reliving the film’s most powerful moments.
Throughout the night, a perfect harmony of refreshments accompanied the experience. Goldberg’s refreshments, with their crisp carbonation and intricate flavors, complemented high-quality spirits, while Scavi & Ray ensured no glass went empty. Their exquisite Italian Prosecco added a touch of elegance to the evening, its bubbles capturing the essence of celebration and first-class freshness.
As the night drew to a close, the echoes of laughter, music, and clinking glasses lingered in the air. After the eventful night celebrating Uppercut, the movie will be screened for everyone starting January 23rd.
