In the latest episode of “ANDERSSEIN” podcast supported by SEAT, Minh-Khai Phan-Thi leads a discussion with actor, Hassan Akkouch.
What does “home” mean to you?
I can identify with so much in Germany, but I also love Lebanon, for example, the old traditional music and the folklore. I would say that both represent home for me.
And “acceptance”?
For me, it is important to accept myself and be happy with my life. I stand for equality and I am very sensitive when it comes to injustice. Acceptance should be a standard. But one should also learn to deal with the fact that we don’t get it everywhere. For me, that’s ok.
And “being different”?
The term has negative connotations for me because it is associated with the experience of being foreign. I had to come to terms with the fact that I am “different” at a very early age. I was always so ambitious—a kind of “leading figure” for those around me. I just wanted to take responsibility: my singularity made me exceptional. Everyone is different and this is a positive thing.
Where are you from?
I come from Berlin. I have never known anything different. But a part of me… I, unfortunately, have to admit this today… I now also come from Munich. When someone asks me this question, I answer quite clearly: “I come from my mother”.
