With all of the hype that continues to surround the much-anticipated Alexander McQueen biopic, the excitement has reached an all time high as producers confirm the addition Jack O’Connell to the cast. Tackling the lead role, the former “Skins” star is set to play the celebrated fashion designer alongside a cast that is still yet to be released.
Based on the biography by Andrew Wilson, the film will focus on the designer’s AW09 collection entitled “Horn of Plenty”. “Providing an intimate portrait of the man behind the global brand”, director Andrew Haigh plans to unfold the highs and lows that ultimately led to McQueen’s last – and arguably greatest – show. The biographical feature will show “the laughter that came easily with his family and friends, and the pressure that came with the relentless demands of the fashion industry.”
Besides being a dead ringer for the fashion mogul, O’Connell’s expansive acting career will also aid him in his challenge of playing McQueen. His rough and ready character portrayal in films such as “Starred Up” and “This is England” show his capability for emulating a volatile role, a skill that will be useful as he portrays the late designer during the most stressful time of his career.
