SLEEK Art celebrated the opening of a new exhibition by Alina Maria Schütte

Last week, SLEEK Art celebrated the opening of a new exhibition by the Berlin-based artist Alina Maria Schütte at the Waldorf Astoria hotel. The artist arrived in style in a Lexus shuttle to present Bilder Einer Ausstellung — a vibrant and atmospheric showcase of her most recent abstract paintings. Guests were welcomed by the Blechbläser-Quintett of Berlin’s Symphony Orchestra, who played the promenade from Modest Mussorgsky’s Bilder Einer Ausstellung composition. Fellow artist Lee Negris introduced Schütte’s paintings, which highlight a preoccupation with texture and the material qualities of the medium that her work is known for. According to the artist, the large-scale paintings represent “the small, fleeting moments” of her life which manifest on canvas as waves of movement and colourful spatters of energy.
