Ali Lacin is a para-athlete. He was born without tibia bones and kneecaps. His thighs were amputated on both sides and he has been wearing prostheses ever since. At home, everything was okay, but the outside remained difficult. He suffered depression at the age of 21 until he watched a report on para-athlete Vanessa Low, who in 2011 was preparing for the Paralympics in London. The report changed his life and monumental to his decision in becoming a para-athlete. When his coach passed on Vanessa Low’s old prostheses to Lacin, he ambitiously set his goal to compete in London in 2012. “I first had to learn to run on the carbon prostheses for one year. But, I was too cocky and broke my collarbone.” In the latest Anderssein Berlin episode series, Lacin opens up about his achievements since, fears that accompany him and why small children believe he’s Ironman.
