Meet Miriam Yung Min Stein, author and cultural director at Harpers Bazaar. Born in South Korea and adopted at the age one by a German couple, Miriam grew up in Osnarbrück, Germany. “I have had to explain myself all my life. There are studies about how the integration of internationally adopted people doesn’t work out easily. But I was always very firm and stayed true to myself. I always vowed that even if I ever got married, I’d stay Miriam Stein.”
I first discovered Miriam through a guest article in Der Spiegel. It was here she wrote about a taboo of womanhood: menopause. I devoured her book “Die gereizte Frau” (The Irritated Woman). The fact that she hit the nerve of the time proved the immediate entry into the Spiegel order list. She describes and explains menopause openly and unsparingly. In this episode of Anderssein, we present a conversation about getting things done, Miriam’s first time in Seoul, her search for identity and of course, about menopause.
