Presenter and musician Amiaz Habtu , whose real name is Ermias Habtu, was born in Esmara, Eritrea. Habtu’s story begins when we was two years old, when he and his family were forced to flee to Germany. His father was fighting underground against the Ethiopian occupation forces at the time and had to leave the country for political reasons. The family ended up in Cologne, where Amiaz still lives today. “I’m a Kölsche Jong,” he tells Minh-Khai Phan-Thi in conversation.

 He gained his first moderation experience as a hall announcer for the basketball team Köln 99ers. After a few attempts, he also started working for television. Among other things, he hosts “Die Höhle der Löwen” on VOX and “Let The Music Play” on Sat 1.
