This time we’re taking an excursion into the world of street art. Our guest is Hera (aka Jasmin Siddiqui) from the artist duo Herakut. Since 2004, together with Falk Lehmann, she has been creating murals in public spaces and has already made a name for herself internationally. You can find out how she discovered art and especially street art for herself, and what role her multicultural parents played in it.

 

Being different has been a constant companion ever since Jasmin, as her real name is, can think. Her dad is Pakistani, mom German. Her mom has always been the only white woman in the Pakistani community. Her dad in the small village in Rhineland-Palatinate, the only dark-skinned man. Jasmin grew up in the Frankfurt prefabricated building. My childhood was characterized by shyness and being different. While other children played together, little Jasmine sat at the table and drew. This little piece of paper gave her support. As she grew older, she encountered graffiti for the first time. “Graffiti saved my life!” she says.
