Anne Imhof: Supporting Ukraine Through Film

As it approaches one year since the Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, CIRCA (The Cultural Institute of Radical Contemporary Arts) launches YOUTH by Anne Imhof as a part of their continued 20:23 program. Imhof’s film observes the year since the war began touching upon ideas of space, displacement and disorientation.

Set in Moscow, the film sees a group of horses are running together, communing and nurturing each other in an open field. When the night breaks in, the surrounding environment is revealed to be an experimental mass housing project, developed after the Stalinist era.

First intended to be shown at the Garage Museum in Moscow, the presentation was cancelled after Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24th 2022. Now, starting from February 3rd until February 28th, YOUTH is screened globally at exactly 20:23 in various cities including Berlin, Milan, Los Angeles, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, London’s Piccadilly Circus and Asia Pacific’s largest LED outdoor screen in Hong Kong.

Continuing to support Ukraine and foster important dialogues, CIRCA collaborates with Anne Imhof to organise a 24-hour fundraiser on February 24th 2023 during which she sells limited edition signed prints of YOUTH. The accumulated proceeds will then be donated to UNICEF in support of their mission to aid children affected by the ongoing war.
