London-based label A.W.A.K.E. is the womenswear vision of Natalia Alaverdian. After a wealth of experience working in styling, art direction and photography, the former Fashion Director at Harper’s Bazaar Russia decided to create her very own brand. “I’ve wanted to design since I was about 10 years old, but I was scared of the technical aspect of it, so I went into styling,” the street style star told Style.com. After years working as a sought-after stylist, Alaverdian gained the courage to start her label, and we are glad she did!

A.W.A.K.E., which is an acronym for All Wonderful Adventures Kindle Enthusiasm, has a distinctively playful mood. Due to her editorial background, Alaverdian’s eye for bold silhouettes means she is making clothes that fashion mags are fighting to put on their pages. The label, which launched in 2012, creates storytelling collections based on a different animal each season. AW16 was based on a rabbit, and the most recent Pre-Spring collection inspired by the jellyfish, resulting in pieces that feel youthful while retaining elegance. Japanese kawaii elements such as frilly cuffs, collars and plaids are balanced out with clean lines, sculptural sleeves and wide flares.

The Moscow-born, Belgium raised designer has won over bloggers and celebrities with her whimsical aesthetic. Russian style has recently become a Fashion obsession across the industry, with Gosha Rubchinskiy and Lotta Volkova leading the way. A.W.A.K.E., however, is less about Soviet sportswear , and more about classic pieces and prints reimagined with unconventional proportions. Tommy Ton’s favourite street style subjects Anya Ziourova and Miroslava Duma were snapped wearing A.W.A.K.E. during fashion week, giving their fellow countrywoman the Russian seal of approval.
