Bastian Casaretto working on the Lala Berlin show during Berlin Fashion Week
Lacking inspiration in the beauty department? Want backstage secrets from someone in the know? Who doesn’t! Fresh from a busy Berlin Fashion Week, we asked Aveda’s Artistic Director, Bastian Casaretto, what’s hot in hair and beauty right now.
On the catwalk:
While styling for Lala Berlin during Fashion Week, I especially liked the the understated beauty structure we created. Very natural but with a touch of glamour.
At Michael Sontag the look was also very minimal. Low, slightly messy ponytails and glowing skin were the key to this style.
Street style:
On the streets, I would generally love to see a little bit more glamour. So many girls have long hair at the moment, so why not spice it up a little? For example, just a few hair-pins can transform your look in seconds, as we used on the models in the GREENshowroom. These useful hair accessories can take your locks from Plain Jane to perfectly chic, with little effort.

For bad hair days:
Think of a ponytail in the hair, as your ‘little black dress’- it’s a classic fail-safe style. For the 0039 Italy show, we gave models a glossy bouncy ponytail, with slight volume in the front to keep it modern.
To recreate this look, I suggest using a mix of AirControl hairspray and Shampure dry-shampoo from Aveda.

Bastian’s must-try make-up trends:
1. Take glowing skin to the next level, an almost plastic-like sheen is super hot right now for a more editorial look.
2. Glossy eye-lids give a super modern and youthful effect.
3. Feeling cheeky? A soft peach or a pinky rouge on the cheekbones gives the face a freshness.
4. Keep lips in natural tones this season, to emphasise beautiful skin and eyes.
