From “Ecce Homo” to “Beast Jesus” in three easy steps
Remember how in 2012 “Beast Jesus” by Cecilia Giménez took over the internet? Ever since the amateur restoration of “Ecce Homo” was revealed, it has been giving the world a serious case of the giggles. This time around “Beast Jesus” is at it again, but as a full-on opera about its not so immaculate inception and online popularity.
“Behold the Man” by Andrew Flack, has been under production for the past three years but it’s finally ready. If you needed proof that God listens to our prayers – this is it. On 18 July 2016 Flack read the first dramatisation to a lucky few in Boulder, Colorado, and according to an email he sent El Pais the audience’s reaction was extraordinary. “Paul Fowler’s music is beautiful and the story is both fun and emotive,” said Flack. “Cecilia’s character is a sedulous woman of faith that found herself in the middle of controversy, but for us she’s a heroine because she followed her heart’s commands,” he added.
“Behold the Man” will premiere on 20 August 2016, on the 4th anniversary of the original “Ecce Homo” incident in Borja, Spain back in 2012. In the meantime, enjoy some of the most memorable moments of the reincarnation of “Beast Jesus”.
