Brick Lane

Asked to describe his photo-story in three words, rising photographer Thanh Nguyen settles on “East-End meets Ruhrpott”. If Ruhrpott means nothing to you, it’s the industrial landscape that surrounds cities like Dortmnund and Essen in the west of Germany—and where the photographer calls home. With its red brick houses and looming industrial builds, Ruhrpott is reminiscent of England—unsurprisingly then, according to the photographer, “British ‘60s style, ‘Brit chic’, pop trash and London Calling” were all inspirations for the shoot. ”It was important for us to look for cultural similarities between London’s East-End and the Ruhr area,” Nguyen tells SLEEK. “The brick lanes at the harbour were just right. It is giving us a bit of a British vibe while having a German industrial touch to it.”

The result is a fashion story that winks with playful contrasts: pink sparkly sunglasses and bleached hair combine with plaid and preppy details, all offset against non-descript red brick facades.
