The 90s stand for a book full of street style references; bold outfit choices, skinny straps, iconic TV shows with puns to outlive their actors and freedom in the arts. The opportunities in the last decade with limited internet were on contrary, limitless, it seems. Taking on the by-gone spirit of the era, Canada Goose announced their collaboration with the footwear designer Salehe Bembury, as a part of their long-lasting partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Succeeding last year’s all-star collaboration, the creative union with Bembury is resulting in a limited-edition collection featuring a 90s cocktail of signature patterns and contrasting materials merged with the outerwear brand’s iconic, yet functional DNA.

Salehe Bembury is an American Designer and the mastermind behind various of the most relevant sneaker designs conceived in the past decade. His approach to design is deeply rooted in his ever-lasting curiosity, communicating the essence of style through the use of distinctive colour, materials and unique silhouettes.

“The NBA significantly influenced my interest in design. Growing up watching games with my dad, and loving everything about 90s basketball culture, from the ’94 Knicks to Space Jam and The Fresh Prince,” said Bembury. “The 90s were a time of fashion exploration, and that ethos is what I believe Canada Goose, the NBA and I have captured with this collection,” he says.

As a response, Canada Goose told us: “Salehe Bembury is one of the world’s most innovative designers of today and we are excited to work with him as this year’s design partner for the NBA All-Star 2022,” said Woody Blackford, Executive Vice President of Product, Canada Goose. “Our NBA partnership has opened the door to bold new interpretations of the Canada Goose brand. This capsule combines the quality and function that Canada Goose is renowned for with the cultural richness of the NBA and Salehe’s boundless design approach.”

Excited for the long-anticipated collaboration, Canada Goose said that their collection with Bembury is rooted in their shared functional approach to heritage and the affinity to juxtapose style in a room without rules. In modern fashion, the capsule collection is genderfluid and made to layer, mix and match and embrace expression through the visual.

Protecting you from the freezing North American cold, the Expedition Parka has been developed by scientists working in extreme weather conditions. Re-imagining its design for this drop, the jacket unites the love for design and the brand’s function-first value. The Concord Fleece may not only make you feel warm, but it also embraces the iconic freedom of 90’s NBA looks and uses bold patterns in Bembury’s traditional signature style for a striking look. The Signal Vest is a must-have weather staple to be present in every wardrobe. Protecting the lower body part from every extreme weather condition, the Tundra Bib is a legacy style straight out of the Canada Goose archive, made for the cold. Staying stylish, each piece is featuring an exclusive logo, made for the collaboration.

“We are thrilled to see our second capsule collection with Canada Goose come to life ahead of NBA All-Star 2022, in celebration of the game’s greatest players and our fans,” said Lisa Piken Koper, Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships, NBA. “As the NBA celebrates its 75th Anniversary Season, our latest collaboration with Canada Goose serves an opportunity for our fans to uniquely express their connection to our game.”, the basketball association acclaims.

Staying true to their promise to inspire and thrive, Canada Goose’s values are deeply engrained in their Play in the Open Campaign. Play in the Open is born out of the brand’s free-spirited live in the open ethos, which is based on the aim to be able to express oneself freely and without judgement. Visualising the collection’s aim, this year’s campaign is directed by Foster Huntington, an iconic American stop motion director, bringing the collaboration’s message to life.

The collaboration will launch on the 11th of February in Canada Goose’s London and Paris flagship stores, their wholesale partners and online.
