What does tonight’s solar eclipse in Cancer mean for us?

If your aura is feeling a little off kilter, don’t worry – this evening’s solar eclipse promises to spell new beginnings and a welcome release of negative emotions. Roughly every 18 months, the shadow of a new moon blocks the sun leaving us in a moment of darkness, but this natural phenomenon has a lot to do with our feelings under the very sensitive sign of Cancer. We spoke to astrology guru Lisa Stardust to find out more about what to expect as the Earth, moon and sun align in cosmic harmony.

So first off – what even is a solar eclipse?

A solar eclipse is a very intense new moon. The sun and moon align in the sky which totally obscures the moon’s view from Earth.

And what can we expect from it? What will it bring into or take away from our lives?

This total solar eclipse will be in the sign of sentimental Cancer, which means we will have an emotional release of some sort. We will be cosmically forced to change the direction of our sense of security. Meaning, we will change how we nurture ourselves and others. Solar eclipses are a time of newness. But, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.

What other effects will the sign of Cancer lend to the eclipse?

The crab likes to hold on to people and situations tightly. This eclipse will allow us to see who we should hold on to and who we should release. It will also give us a different perspective on affairs of the heart, as the crab walks side to side, which allows them to see situations differently.

This eclipse will allow us to see who we should hold on to and who we should release.

What sort of things should we really be paying attention to in the wake of this solar eclipse?

We should be implementing self-care and giving ourselves much needed TLC. There may be anxiety, restless nights, and temper tantrums.

Be gentle on yourself and others.

Is it true that the only way to progress during an eclipse period is forward? If so, how do we learn to leave the past behind?

The tides will always change. People can always make up. We can adjust our lifestyles.

Eclipses really help us see where we need to improve. Sometimes nothing can happen, or the effects are minimal. It depends on the life you are leading.

What star signs will be particularly affected by this solar eclipse?

The cardinal signs—Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

Do you have any tips for coping with the change that an eclipse brings?

Don’t be scared to let go. If it’s meant to be, it will come back to you.

And lastly once the eclipse has occurred, how will we feel? How long will it take these changes to come apparent?

It will feel like a big release of energy. The energy from the eclipse can take weeks and months to manifest. But, the week after we head into the lunar eclipse zone (for the eclipse July 16th).
