First, the leaves change their colour, then they gravitate towards the floor with breezes of cold wind. Everyone wraps their hands in warmth, words that leave mouths suddenly become visible, and sometimes, the world is coated in white snow, resembling fluffy cotton candy. Besides its tremendous lack of daylight, Winter has a mystical side, hidden in the dark depth of the season. To celebrate this, the brand Carharrt WIP teamed up with the creative team of Joaquim Bayle and Sylvain Sey to create a cinematic ode to winter in the city. Exposed under neon-hued lighting, the atmosphere is curious yet mysterious.
The brand is by no means a stranger to the creative duo they have worked alongside each other for the brand’s Summer 2021 campaign, which was based on a meditative take on the typical summer boredom. Contrary to the idyllic summer campaign, this winter campaign channels similar themes of solitude, but in a darker, almost deeper way. Wrapped in robust garments this collection is made for every weather.
The film is inspired by neo-noir thrillers like Nightcrawler as well as the lonely figures of Edward Hopper paintings, early 2000s TV shows, set in dense urban areas, such as London or New York. Focussing on those references, the duo birthed their visual idea for the collection around “dark, cold landscapes” brought to life by the people who come alive when the night falls.
