Chin Mens Breathes Romance into Menswear for SS18

Yesterday, the Chin Mens SS18 collection was presented on the sun-bathed steps of Paris’ Palais Brongniart. The two-year-old brand caught the attention of Sleek with last season’s high-waisted blue denim and bold-shouldered tailoring, but this time designer Chin is softening up his approach. The new collection features light linen shirts with slashes and ties, pleated trousers and dropped shoulder jackets giving an all around lighter mood. The tranquil colour palette was punctuated with a softly tailored azure blue suit.
”I wanted to think more about emotion than attitude,” the Central Saint Martins-schooled designer told Sleek about his newest offering. His approach is the antidote to the still-popular, hard-edged Post-Soviet mood across fashion.
Chin was inspired by women’s Victorian undergarments that protected the skin from the structural clothing worn on top. “I tried to make it work in a masculine way,” he said. The designer has certainly succeeded, and the collection felt contemporary, romantic and wearable. While a few other brands have done romance in a fabulously flamboyant manner, such as Palomo Spain, Chin maintains a more sensitive, understated stance. We are looking forward to seeing more from the promising new talent.
