Christoph Waltz beams off into the future for his latest role

When it comes to transport choices, Christoph Waltz doesn’t tend to take the orthodox option. From the dentist wagon, he infamously commandeered in Django Unchained (2012) to riding shotgun with Jerry Seinfeld in a BMW 507 roadster for an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (2012— ), Waltz fails to look out of place in even the most ostentatious of rides. It should therefore come as no surprise that the two-time Oscar winner has partnered with BMW as a co-creator for the group’s #NEXTGen 2020 platform.

At its essence, #NEXTGEN 2020 is a multi-day, digital event, featuring a variety of showcases from the BMW group centring on the future of mobility. Waltz took on a starring role in the premiere of the BMW iX Test Drive short film, having expressed a desire to work with a “future-orientated company”. Waltz and BMW are said to have had considerable dialogue regarding the relationship between future technology, social change and the significance of driving in the future. Set in an underground car park, the short film documents Waltz’s humourous first moments experiencing the BMW iX, before driving off into the sunset with a trademark ear to ear grin.
