Givenchy has announced that Clare Waight Keller will replace Riccardo Tisci as Givenchy’s new artistic director. Tisci has held the position of artistic director of the French house since 2005, and is anticipated to move to Italian fashion house Versace. The brand released the news on its Instagram, to its whopping 7.7 million followers.
The LVMH couture house certainly has a notable history behind it; Prior to Tisci’s tenure, the house has had John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Julien Macdonald as creative directors. Waight Keller is the second female designer to take up such a high position at a LVMH brand, following the appointment of Maria Grazia Chiuri at Christian Dior.
Waight Keller held the position of creative director at French luxury fashion house Chloé for the past 6 years. Her success at Chloé has been attributed to her ability to create wearable clothing and expensive handbags and shoes which were a retail success. Although she is inexperienced in the field of haute couture, she has worked previously as creative director of Pringle of Scotland as well as Chloé, and has worked at Gucci as a senior designer.
