The Best of Beauty from Couture Week

Couture Fashion Week Beauty 2016 2017 Maison Margiela

While ready-to-wear and resort fashion weeks have their excitement, couture presentations are undoubtedly where designers let their artistry really shine through. Despite Vetements and its push towards wearable couture, most houses continue to maintain the level of pageantry we’ve all grown to love. As always, accompanying the glamorous designs were equally eye-catching beauty looks. Here are our five favourites from this round of couture fashion week.

Glittery lips at Versace

Winning the title as our favourite (and most wearable) look from the week, Versace sent its models down the runway sporting sparkling rouge pouts. Behind this dazzling transformation was none other than make-up artist of the moment Pat McGrath, who left all other features toned down in order to keep focus on the lips.

Morning-after eyes at Chanel

At Chanel, eye make-up was deliberately made to look less than perfect, invoking feelings of a party girl’s morning after. Sky high top buns completed the disheveled beauty, which provided balance with the label’s well-tailored designs.

8-bit lips at Jean Paul Gaultier

Wearing a white Elizabethan-style number by Jean Paul Gaultier, Soo Joo Park was last to walk at the house’s woodlands inspired show. Frosted lashes completed the snow queen look, but her dot painting lips were the real show stopper. Variously hued red circles adorned the model’s lips, creating a pixelated effect.

Custom wings at Christian Dior

The make-up team at Christian Dior gave the traditional cat eye a graphically cool update, drawing bold lines in both gold and black. Each model was given her own unique flick, creating a one-of-a-kind look that proves when it comes to winged eyeliner, there’s no such thing as too much. Included in the show was Dior Beauty’s new brand ambassador Bella Hadid.

Pop art face paint at Maison Margiela

The second Pat McGrath look to appear on this list, for Maison Margiela the make-up artist painted models faces in sunny strokes of yellow, red and orange. Serving as a continuation of the label’s Bowie-themed show from last season, one model was even sent down the runway with Ziggy Stardust’s signature lightning bolt.
