Dawid Tomaszewski’s Metamorphosis

Dawid Tomaszewski’s inspiration for his soft palleted SS13 collection was a journey to Portugal, which he had previously embarked on. Citing the “luminous landscapes of Lisbon, the optical charm of Asulejos mosaic, the graphical artworks of Eduardo Nery, and the magical coils and patterns of Joana“ as major influences within the serene womens and mens collection.

Acting as a continuation from the previous collection “Transientness“, “Metamorphosis“ saw Tomaszewski pair light, transparent chiffons, with heavy, woven pieces made from natural fibres. For the mens pieces, on the other hand, there was an abundance of rich reds and creams, layers, and triangular patterns featuring throughout. Berlin label Trés Bonjour supplied the latex leggings for both men and women, making Tomaszewski’s pieces look more Fifth Element than the original Portuguese inspiration.

In true Dawid Tomaszewski’s signature crystal frosting style, many of the heavier woven pieces were bedazzled with an abundance of Swarovski crystals. Unlike in previous collections however, the Swarovski element here was subtly placed within the garments, adopting a mature feel, rather than the obvious bling statement that it could have easily  fallen guilty to.
