MALAIKARAISS

Berlin-based designer Malaika Raiss showed off her AW17 collection at the raw, “under-construction” Humboldt Forum. The concrete location gave a perfect contrast to the designer’s delicate aesthetic, working well in line with the feel of the collection, which was all about contrasts. The collection showcased a range of graceful and feminine dresses combined with more menswear-inspired pieces, bringing on a “boyish” attitude to the otherwise girly universe of MALAIKARAISS. The models were radiating self-confidence on the runway with a strong masculine eyebrow and heavy pink blush, walking in strict diagonal lines across the rough space to a contemporary ambient beat.

HIEN LE

Berlin designer Hien Le showed his latest collection at the Mitte location Kaufhaus Jandorf. Le is often inspired by the aesthetic and culture of sport, and with this collection, the designer had skateboarding in mind, referencing the skateboarder style of layered tops and baggy trousers. For instance, the collection showed a blazer with a second sleeve below the actual sleeve and loose, sporty-cut woolen pants with pinstripes. Despite references to a culture focused on youth, the collection channels a more mature and polished iteration through heavier materials and sleek tailoring.
