“For the first time, I photographed people close to me as well as myself. They are familiar people who support me in my everyday life,” explains Berlin-based photographer Debora Brune. She made the decision herself to photograph her story about identity using these very people.
“I guess for quite a long time I didn’t really think about the word identity or what it meant to me. By finding my identity through my work, I’m asking myself who I am, where I come from and why I love to photograph some things and not others. I’m understanding why covering certain topics in my work also requires more effort on my part. I’m discovering to what extent I perceive or view things differently because of my physical limitations. I began to recognise and accept that my disability is a part of my identity, a part that I often avoided dealing with in my work,” says Debora.

For SLEEK, Debora photographed all of her friends and herself for the first time, putting a face to her sense of home. She lives and works in Berlin.
