Earlier this year, the collaboration of NFTs with fashion started to take off. With a disrupted concept of ownership, introduced by streaming services many years ago, fashion, a product that is traditionally known and recognised for its physicality, is now jumping on the NFT trend. Written out, NFT defines as “non-fungible-token” and is essentially defined as the ownership of a digital file, for example, a gif or an image, purchasable online via various forms of cryptocurrency and are, just like luxury fashion, seen as a form of investment. Diesel will be one of the major fashion brands launching an exclusive limited edition NFT of their new hero sneaker Prototype. Designed by Diesel and created in collaboration with the digital fashion house The Fabricant, the brand is paving the way for a new influx of digitalisation within fashion.

Taking the launch of the digital metaverse into consideration, the Prototype will act as Diesel’s protagonist in the rising digital fashion world. Working with the Fabricant, a brand that is shaping a new paradigm, where the physicality and emotionality of fashion is being translated into the virtual world. The Prototype is an innovative sneaker design by Diesel’s creative director Glenn Martens, which sets the tone for any upcoming digital footwear by the brand. It is the beginning of an era, which is also reflected in the NFT itself. It is pushing the boundaries of reality, the imaginary limits of athletic footwear design and is breaking the aesthetic rules all-round.

Illustrated by a symphony of rubber straps and asymmetric lacing, the Prototype was first seen on the brand’s Spring/Summer 2022 runway. Additionally, it features an industrial outsole thread and moulded rubber overlays across its uppers.
