Business of Fashion announced today that one half of the Valentino design duo—Maria Grazia Chiuri—will be leaving the famed Italian house to join Dior, filling the empty spot after Raf Simons’ departure last season.
Though the announcement isn’t confirmed (neither Dior nor Valentino could be reached for comments), it’s not surprising that Chiuri would be asked to fill some of the biggest shoes in the biz. She, along with her partner Pierpaolo Piccioli, are credited with the success of Valentino—where they’ve been creative directors since 2007.
This marks the first time in Dior’s 70 year history that a woman will be stepping up to lead the creative team. The announcement is set to happen in July after Dior’s couture show in Paris.
