J.W.Anderson Curates Exhibition on the Human Form

‘The Thinleys’ by Jamie Hawkesworth

J.W.Anderson has curated an exhibition exploring the human form within art, fashion and design at Yorkshire’s Hepworth Wakefield Gallery. “Disobedient Bodies” explores how the human form has been reimagined by designers and artists during the 20th and 21st centuries. The talented fashion designer began devising the material for the exhibition whilst looking at early works by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore that represented the human body in radical new ways.

This is not Anderson’s first venture into the art world. In 2016 he opened a Loewe exhibition in Madrid, showcasing the history behind the Spanish luxury leather house that he leads along with his own label.

The exhibition gathers together a personal selection of more than 100 objects spanning art, fashion and ceramics. It includes sculptures from iconic female artists including Louise Bourgeois, Barbara Hepworth and Sarah Lucas. Fashion pieces are also featured from Rei Kawakubo, Helmut Lang and Issey Miyake. The art-loving designer continues to blur the lines between art and fashion by displaying the objects together creating a direct dialogue between them through the exhibit.

“I want the exhibition to mirror the speed and unexpected encounters that characterise the way in which we consume images today,” said Jonathan Anderson. “As well as being a space in which to explore ideas of gender and identity that have been an ongoing part of my creative practice.”

Renowned British photographer Jamie Hawkesworth also shot Yorkshire school children wearing fashion pieces from the exhibition. Take a look at J.W.Anderson and Jamie Hawkesworth’s campaign that Sleek loves here. The exhibition runs until 18 June 2017.
