Flamboyant eleganza and the native temperamento is what Italian style has traditionally been known for – especially in Milan, capital of fashion and home to many of the most influential houses of our times. Of course, that only describes the popular impression of Milan’s fashion culture. So for this issue of Sleek, Italian-born and New York-based photographer Samantha Casolari adds a more personal and contemporary view of the essence of the city. Her vision of a younger Milanese style is insightful and reflective, and comes dressed in a boyish checked pant-suit or wearing mixed patterns and sporty caps with an Arabesque cape (those looks come from a new wave of Italian design talent, names such as MSGM and Andrea Pompilio). In these dreamlike visions, there’s also a dash of Italian grandezza, sealing Milan’s connection between old roots, new tendencies and individual imagination.
