Minh-Khai Phan-Thi begins each episode of the Anderssein podcast with the following four questions as they were pertinent to her own journey of self-discovery. For this reason, she poses these questions to her guests to find out how they’re doing.

Where are you from?

I come from Cologne, I was born and grew up there. Is that enough?

Is there a difference between homeland and home for you?

Yes there is. I call Turkey my homeland, so it has something to do with home. Actually, my roots are Turkish. If I take it exactly, here in Germany is my home because I belong here. I keep talking about it with my mother and my relatives, some of whom are still in Turkey. They are not closed with their hearts there. I do not have that. This is my home. This here is home, there is nothing there.

What role does acceptance play for you?

This is something we all strive for. I even analyzed it for myself. Having to prove acceptance is also part of my engine. Of course because of my origins, how I look, my social status in my youth.

What question do you want to stop being asked?

No idea.
