Open Eye Gallery is opening a brand new exhibition exploring the influence of the North of England on fashion and visual culture. The exhibition is co-curated by Adam Murray and SHOWstudio editor, Lou Stoppard, and features work from some of fashion’s most notable photographers, including early photography by Jamie Hawkesworth and Alasdair McLellan, and historic prints from Glen Luchford and Nick Knight. On display will also be new collaborative work, such as a project by Hacienda designer, Ben Kelly, and Sleek 52 cover star, OFF-WHITE designer Virgil Abloh, who is a long term fan of the sounds and graphics of 1980s Northern England.
Lou Stoppard, co-curator for the exhibition, commented: “The North of England has not only produced a myriad of cultural moments and creative talents, it also serves as an inspiration to those who live far beyond England.”
Alongside the artworks, iconic fashion items that embody Northern style, will also be on the display at the show. This includes the Raf Simons parka from the renowned AW 2003 Control Collection and archive shoes by Adidas.
