With a strong use of colour and abstract subjects, Rita Sabo’s work evokes the feeling of being a dreamscape away from reality. But actually, it suggests a confrontation with the depth of our subconsciousness to force the viewer to see with more than just their eyes, rather far beyond of what can be grasped. The perception of spirituality differs in the Western and Eastern worlds, though their symbols remain similar. In exploring our ways of thinking and approaching questions of life, Sabo opens a dialogue by analyzing spirits through challenging our view on symbols.

For the exhibition “Sacred Planet”, Rita Sabo stays true to her artistic expression while touching upon the subject of sustainability. Using her main subject of the kaleidoscope, feelings of eternity but at the same time calmness are triggered which then build up to showcase the earth as a holy and sacrosanct planet. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the literal “Sacred Planet”, a sculpture that comprises each facet of the earth.

Since symbols are a reoccurring subject in Sabo’s work, the artist reinterprets historical ones and sets them into a new context. With her current solo exhibition being in the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Rita Sabo’s artworks are surrounded by paintings of Tizian, Tintoretto and Veronese which creates an atmosphere of exchange between past and present. Inspired by the historical facade, each of her works blends in with the already existing art.
