Michèle Côté’s nostalgic editorial reimagines the hazy gin-soaked days of 1940’s Soho for the 1920s – a point in history when self-expression was scarce. Merging bold colours, statement cuts and fierce, empowered femininity, the Chelsey Clarke-styled shoot envisions an alternate 1920s reality, one which proves the importance of expression and identity within fashion and our wider culture. Featuring an assemblage of statement pieces such as a Molly Goddard dress in metallic green as well as classic Chanel earrings paired with bold make-up and choppy hair, the looks serve to assert the enduring expression of personality through fashion. The astute balance of baring flesh whilst wearing baggy and traditional cuts, creates an androgynous style to compliment this unusual crossover of punk and the high-class.
