With all the glitz and the glamour of the professional football, it can be easy to forget the real resonance that the sport has in people’s lives: bringing together a team of young people. Regardless of age, religion, nationality, and sexuality, right? Except that there are still huge obstacles to that ideal.
For example it’s still a huge deal when a footballer comes out as gay – as it was in the case of Thomas Hitzlsperger, who, at the beginning of 2014, became the first German footballer to be openly homosexual and the first in the UK’s Premier League, too.
In this shoot, Sleek explores the beautiful gay side of the beautiful game.
