A master of both stage and screen, Bibiana Beglau possesses – sort of acting skills that most performers spend their lives developing. And her talents have not gone unrewarded: in 2000 she won the Berlinale Silver Bear for her titular role in “The Legend of Rita”. Diverse character selections and powerful performances have kept typecasting at bay, ensuring an acting career that shows no sign of going stale. And when it comes to her style philosophy, the 44-year-old German thespian also advocates variation. “For me, fashion is about having fun and mixing things up,” she says.
On these images, Beglau romps with cherry blossoms in a selection of dresses designed by Dorothee Schumacher. Here she translates her ability to emote into still images. “As an actor, you’re always dependent on the character you’re playing,” she says, “whereas, on a fashion shoot there is more liberty to interpret the role without pre-conceptions.” And while she enjoyed it – as the photos show – she prefers to keep it strictly for fun; break a leg, Ms Beglau.
