Felicity Hammond: Metropolitan Melancholy

SLEEK cabinet Felicity Hammond page 1
In each issue, Sleek commissions artists to create an exclusive visual essay. For issue 53, Felicity Hammond, photographer and FOAM talent, contributes a series focusing on urban environment, gentrification and the role of the metropolis. Building sites, retail spaces and advertising hoardings find their way into her work, aestheticising the grimy reality of the city in the manner of an estate-agent’s 3D rendering.
Her work marries images taken from real life with sculptures. As she told us in Sleek 51, “I was always encouraged to push my techniques in terms of what photography can be and examine its boundaries. Direct to media printing techniques allow me to print on lots of different surfaces, pushing my practice towards to the sculptural.”
