Ivory Campbell: Fool’s Spring

These photos were taken in what my friend Jordan would call ‘Fools Spring’, a time when temperatures would tease warmer days just to be callously followed by a second winter. Degrees just above zero reduced us to mummified bodies, drowning in excessive clothes and overpriced coffees. When looking through these images, I am reminded of the unabated wind that accompanied the days, blowing leaves, discarded litter and a new year through the streets.

Much like the wind, I am surrounded by and immersed in an era of redefined femininity. One that has reclaimed its right to move as it chooses, sweeping through our lives unapologetically and with great force. Short hair and unshaven bodies, fearless independence and a true acceptance of self. Brisk in its nature, femininity is no longer reduced to a bullet point list or specific gender, it presents itself as a space for imagination and interpretation. Like the nature that stands proudly behind these women, it implores us to be vulnerable and connect to what feels most natural to us.
