“Originally, our inspirations were ’70s aesthetics and a Miami vibe,” says founder and lead designer of gender neutral brand, Eleven Ten Studio, Aleksandra Cegielska-Rofaiel about their latest collection. Initially called When the sun goes down, the collection’s colour scheme was inspired by sunset on the beach, sand and sky. With the onset of coronavirus, however, Cegielska-Rofaiel and her team were no longer able to shoot the campaign as they had planned to, which compelled them to change direction. “I decided to rename the collection Free to be me, dare to be me as clothes should not limit us, and especially these days: we all should think outside the box.” The new approach to the collection centres around the ‘Kendall’ sweatshirts and ‘Kyle’ t-shirts boasting collage graphics, made by Cegielska-Rofaiel from fashion magazine cut-outs. “The faces on those graphics are not real; they are transformed and exaggerated and they contain both male and female elements. Featuring these in the collection, I want to send the message to see a person, not a gender. We should think outside the box society has been showing us for years.”
