Everyone knows Grindr as the number one gay dating app but what many might not be aware of is the company’s efforts in raising awareness for LGBTQ rights. Through their “#Grindr4Equality” programme the popular social network has already helped connect gay Syrian refugees with safe houses, empowered Colombians to triple their LGBT elected officials and educated gay and bi-sexual men in Tunisia about their legal rights. Now, they have debuted a fashion collection that aside from being fabulously Grindr will also raise funds for LGBTQ athletes.
“As we keep evolving, we are looking for ways to combine things people enjoy with ways to help the community globally,” said Lander Smithers Grindr’s creative director. For “Grindr Varsity” they collaborated with Print All Over Me to produce a whole range of clothing items, including windbreakers, sweatshirts, mesh tops, and of course jockstraps. “The collection feels sexy, cheeky, fun,” said Smithers. “But in the end, all profits are going to an amazing group that helps athletes with the issues the gay community faces all around the world”. The proceeds will go to Athlete Ally — a non-profit organisation focused on ending homophobia and transphobia in sports. With this campaign swiping has never felt so good.
