In celebration of the Helmut Newton Foundation’s 10 year anniversary, a new exhibition and book project from the legendary photographer and his wife, June Newton entitled “Us and Them” opens tomorrow in Berlin.

Helmut Newton became a household name in the high fashion editorial world, shooting for publications such as Vogue and Harpers Bazaar from the late 1950s right up until his death in 2004.

The exhibition “Us and Them”  will focus on the photographic journal of this iconic couple’s life together, documenting intimate and candid moments, as well as self portraits taken by both Helmut and June. In addition to the personal glimpses into the couple’s private life, the exhibition also documents Helmut’s stay in various hospitals, as well as the emotional documentation June (working under the synonym Alice Springs) made of her husband in January 2004, as he lay on his deathbed.

Whilst the Helmut Newton Foundation is renowned for showcasing the work of Helmut, June Newton’s own photographic is equally as impressive, and at 91 years old June remains the president of the foundation, who is still very present in the day to day running of the exhibitions and events.

In addition to this exhibition, the show “Sex and Landscapes” will also be presented, which reveals another side of Helmut Newton. Initiated by Simon de Pury, the show will present various large-scale photographs in both black and white, and colour, all taken between 1974 and 2001, featuring landscapes paired together with Newton’s iconic nude photographs.

“Us and Them” and “Sex and Landscapes” is on show at the Helmut Newton Foundation from June 5 to November 16 2014.
