HONOR is a global brand that is committed to developing technology to empower and connect people around the globe. Their latest initiative ‘Gateway to the Future’ pushes this further, aiming to make culture more accessible and engaging in the era of the metaverse.

To instigate this initiative, HONOR invited celebrated artists Yunuene and Timo Helgert to creatively reimagine the Wasserschloss, an iconic landmark located in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt, using augmented reality. HONOR partnered with the AR and VR development company ARLOOPA, who were able to support and harness the creativity through their expertise in technology development. Set against the backdrop of the growth of hybrid tourism, the project serves as inspiration for global creative talent to leverage innovations such as AI, AR and Spatial Audio to connect communities with culture in more immersive ways, as the world embraces the connected future.

The result of this collaboration is two interesting and thought provoking pieces. The first by Yunuene is entitled ‘Sailing Through Time’ and pays tribute to the evolution of the city’s port, showing how innovation in marine logistics transformed over time with her signature visual aesthetic. Meanwhile, Timo Helgert’s ‘Blooming Future’ takes a more futuristic approach, playing on Hamburg’s status as one of the greenest cities of the world and creatively imagines what the Wasserschloss would look like in a green future where beautiful plants and endangered species can thrive.

Gateway to the Future also aims to inspire creative talent from all around the world to reimagine their own communities in the era of the metaverse. For the first time, HONOR Talents Global Design Awards is introducing a dedicated AR Interactive Artwork Design category, and is now accepting applications for digital art that transforms local neighbourhoods, including digital overlays for buildings, walls, parks, and other public spaces.
