Since 1996, luxury German fashion house Hugo Boss has collaborated with the world-renowned Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York to bring us the pinnacle of contemporary art. Its biennial Hugo Boss Prize is awarded to one artist who the association deems to have made considerable impact on the development of contemporary visual arts. This year, we congratulate South Korean artist Anicka Yi as the 2016 winner of the competition.
Hugo Boss celebrates contemporary art as an integral part of its business, citing it as important to contributing to the company’s innovative spirit. The Hugo Boss Prize is one of the world’s most recognised awards for contemporary art, and they have collected a remarkable portfolio since instigating the competition. Other nominees from the 2016 contest include Tania Bruguera (Cuba), Mark Leckey (England), Ralph Lemon (USA), Laura Owens (USA), Wael Shawky (Egypt). However, only one artist could win and this year it is Yi who receives the $100,000 prize.
