Ice and Glass: Tapio Wirkkala's Finnish Design in Berlin

A selection of works by Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala will take focus at Jacksons Berlin for an exhibition entitled “High Resolution”. Engraved glass, wood and silver transform into sensual sculptures with shapely silhouettes, depicting the mastery of material Wirkkala has become notorious for. In addition, each delicate, abstract object is accompanied by a photograph shot by contemporary artist Hans Hansen. A decades long independent project of Hansen’s, the idea to capture Wirkkala’s work through the art of photography came to fruition after visiting an exhibition of his ice sculptures at the Triennale di Milano. The new exhibition, which has been curated by Berlin-based interior designer Ilke Penzlien, gives viewers the opportunity to reflect on the different perspective each photograph provides.
