Scent plays an important role in the way we’re drawn to others. The way it attracts creates invisible bonds and when a person smells good, it’s an attraction that can’t be tested.
For the perfumers at Frédéric Malle, the perfect match between the perfume and wearer has been a crucial goal in the creation and philosophy of the brand. To take a step further, literally and figuratively, Frédéric Malle has launched their brand new online quiz for an even more precise perfume-wearer pairing, reaffirming the brand’s location-independent matchmaking speciality with a cheeky twist. The quiz is a collaboration with a longtime friend, the LA-based artist, Konstantin Kakanias whose illustrations are known for whimsy and theatrical drama. “Face-to-face sessions with one of our specialists are always going to be the ultimate, but you shouldn’t have to go to a store to get a great experience or the right match”, states Malle.

The idea of selecting a perfume without the physical experience may not sound convincing, but the personal quiz in the comfort of behind a screen may be more revealing than you think and with the full range of its selections, there is bound to be a perfume for everyone. “I knew that a virtual experience could be eventually as fun and accurate – a similar type of exchange, but in a way, more intimate, and quite extraordinary”, says the perfume artisan.
To determine the accuracy of the quiz, our Digital Editor Nay and Editorial Intern Nina reviewed the results.
Your results were Carnal Flower, Lipstick Rose and Musc Ravageur. Do you identify with these perfumes? What’s your final pick and why?
Nay: It’s a hard decision because I think all three perfumes represent different sides of me but my final pick is Carnal Flower. I like the contrast between “innocence” that’s followed by the “lustful” tuberose.
Your results were Magnolia, L’Eau d’Hiver and Le Parfum de Therese. Do you identify with these perfumes? What’s your final pick and why?
Nina: Surprisingly yes! I love the subtle flower tones combined with mystical undertones. My final pick would be Le Parfum de Therese, I love the backstory of it, combined with freshness and dark mystery.
