I’m so bored, I could masturbate

Here we are: It’s year two of the pandemic. Not much to do really. You can take a walk in nature, or stop by a drug store, buy a deoderant (you’ll want one of these when you’re done reading). Maybe you’re working a lot or not at all. Or, if you’re lucky enough to have a partner who tested negative – for HIV and Corona that is – you can have sex. There. That about covers the areas of unobstructed freedom for now. Thankfully, that’s not the whole truth. Masturbation awareness to the rescue!

In our print issue a few weeks ago, we got to speak to Swedish indie adult filmmaker Erika Lust about the topic. She taught us a whole bunch of new vocabulary, like, ever heard of edging? No? According to Erika, and we can probably all confirm this part, “everything feels better when it isn’t given to you straight away”. So far so good. She then continues, “edging is an orgasm control technique that can make sex last longer and intensify your orgasms. You take yourself or your partner close to the climax, you stop or slow down the stimulation for a few seconds, and then build the sexual energy back up and approach orgasm again. Do it as many times as you like and for as long as you like. I highly recommend it!”

Erika also gives “me time” a whole new dimension. Since scheduling spa escapes and even visits to the hairdresser’s can be quite the logistical hurdle these days,  Erika makes staying home a whole lot more interesting. “We need to first find our own intimacy and know how our body works before building up desire with our lovers. Pamper yourself with a scented warm bath, make love to your body with the help of a sex toy and let your phantasies flow.”

That sounds easy enough, right? But what if I’m not entirely comfortable or even familiar with this aspect of myself? What if masturbation still feels like a dirty word? Do not fret, that’s where Erika’s really got your back. Or front? Or both? In any case, check out her special service for this month of masturbation awareness, where we get free access to all the information and support on the topics of sex education, self-love, and, yes, film material. This is a great resource especially for young people, still exploring and learning (and aren’t we all?).

If you’re still feeling shy about the idea of self-pleasure, join the community: on May 25, Erika Lust invites everyone to join her special free online Live Masturbation Session in partnership with Allbodies, an educational website for the rest of us.

We can’t speak for you, of course, but we’re pretty excited about dedicating a whole month to the topic. Slight chance Erika’s employees are even more excited than we are though. For the whole year, starting today, Erika is giving her employees 30 minutes a day for masturbation. The team is even planning on providing sound files to these extended lunch breaks for all of us to get inspired. Now that we’re thinking about it, maybe we should talk to our own boss this week!

For more information, check out Erika’s Lust Zine, which is an incredibly valuable source of, well, pleasure of course.

So, even if there is a pandemic out there, can’t nobody say, ain’t nothing much to do around here anymore. Enjoy your self and maybe thank us later.
