SLEEK Dinner: A Look Into HerzWerk Berlin

Held at HerzWerk Berlin, the SLEEK Dinner portrayed a future vision of the place’s identity. In GDR times, the buildings located at Herzbergstraße used to be worker’s houses but they eventually stayed unoccupied up until now. Renovation works started beginning of this year to transform the units of roughly 10,000 square meters in total into a centre for art and culture.

Amidst the district of Lichtenberg, the future artist quarter aims to bring added value to the lesser-seen neighbourhood while still nurturing it inner networks with shared inner courtyards. In favour of its artistic community, HerzWerk is pushing for affordable housing due to its innovative architectural concept that at the same time also offers enough space for rehearsals and practices. Designed to build a strong-knit community inside that provides the needed circumstances for artists, HerzWerk intends to create a sense of belonging, also wanting to attract existing surrounding artists.

Discussing the future of the project, Prof. Dr. Norbert Palz, President of the UdK, and Christian Bracht held a dinner to bring the young creative art world even closer together. With the mission to nourish young talents, the event showcased the grounds of the new creative location while highlighting the opportunities HerzWerk could bring. Most importantly, the dinner emphasised the importance of what creating a community feels like.
