This Gallery Weekend, let Sleek be your guide. In collaboration with 38Hours, we are excited to release our Gallery Weekend Berlin Guide, available for download through the App Store. Galerie EIGEN + ART with locations in Leipzig and Berlin represents established and young artists who work in media such as film/video, photography, installation, painting and sculpture as well as conceptual art and performance. Galerie EIGEN + ART emerged in the year 1983 as an unofficial gallery project. Since January 2015 the EIGEN + ART Lab has been relocated to its new venue in Torstraße.
Which artist are you showing for gallery weekend and why did you choose him?
The artist Martin Eder, a solo exhibition of his new paintings, “Those Bloody Colours”. In these works, the artist is examining the growing influence of imagery of combat and fantasy series in the media, a theme which we’re all thinking about at the moment.

You recently opened a new space on Torstraße – why and which artists are you showing there?
After three years in the Ehemaligen Jüdischen Mädchenschule, the EIGEN + ART Lab moved to Torstr. 220 in March of this year. It is intended as a innovative, experimental project space for contemporary positions. The Lab’s exhibitions and programme reflect the dynamic relationships between art and society. In addition to our exhibition programme, interactions, talks, performances and projects will uncover new contexts, and present new positions to collectors, curators, journalists and the general public. For gallery weekend, we are showing a solo exhibition of the London painter Ross Chisholm.
Is there anything you won’t miss during gallery weekend?
I’m not going to miss anyone who has come to engage with the artists we show. The most important people of all are the artists we represent, and the celebrations we have together.
Which bar- or restaurant is your favourite?
For lunch, “Das Lokal“ on Linienstraße, and for dinner, “Themroc“, a small, intimate restaurant on Torstraße – but don’t forget to reserve a table!
“Those Bloody Colours” by Martin Eder will open on Friday, 1 May, from 5 PM until 9 PM at Galerie EIGEN +ART Berlin.
