New York born, Berlin based photographer, Luis Alberto Rodriguez merges his passion for photography with his background in dance to create visually stimulating images of the human form.
Rodriguez’s beautifully portrays faces and bodies that look strong and dynamic, while incorporating a strong sense of motion through contortion. As the photographer says himself, his imagery offers a sense of confusion: “haunting the viewer with the recognisable turned unrecognisable.” Tension is contrasted with fluidity, strength is juxtaposed with flexibility and a sense of energy is always present in these extraordinarily captivating shots.
The self-taught photographer has been commended numerous times through a string of awards and nominations. Along with his highly acclaimed rating in 2016’s Magnum Photography Awards, Rodriguez has also been presented with two awards from Life Framers – for their “COLOURS” and “The Human Body” competitions. He’s been published in a variety of reputable publications, including 032c, Glamour and of, course, in SLEEK 51.
