Berlin-based artist Raphael Danke is best known for his delicate collages in which he freely reinterprets forms by cutting out and rearranging pages of fashion magazines. Being equally inspired by fashion photography and surrealism, he constructs elusive imageries and reveals underlying connections between body parts, clothing fabrics and pieces of furniture, exploring the metamorphosis of things and life, architecture and body, object and mind.” For his photographs of magazine spreads, he overlays magazine pages and lights them up from the back, creating tender and ethereal pictures.
Danke’s obsession with fashion photography began when he was a little boy, flicking through the pages of his grandmother’s magazines. His mixed-media works, which also include performance and sculpture, have been shown in numerous exhibitions, including MOT International in Brussels, Norma Mangione Gallery in Torino and Neuer Kunstverein in his hometown Aachen, Germany.
