Julian Zigerli Show – Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015
There is simply no containing Julian Zigerli’s zest. His Spring/Summer 2015 collection, entitled “Life Is One Of The Hardest”, was supposed to be an ode to a desk-slave, who has become twisted with his own monotony. Evidence of this tedium was nowhere in sight, however, as the young designer sent out look after look of soft sportswear and bright two-toned suits down the runway. Vibrant tones and experimental prints bobbed along the runway to metal music: a full-calorie opening to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin.
For next summer, Zigerli has continued his summer constructions of cut outs, this time comprising half sleeves, with extra loops of material folding flapping free, and cheeky gaps where a chest pocket should be. The theme even continued into the sunglasses collection. Elsewhere, the Swiss designer worked with head to toe patterns, from bubbly camouflage swimwear and sweaters to the chevron stripes on summer suits, giving them a sporty, pyjama vibe. A standout look was the orange knitted ensemble, another the not-quite primary coloured mesh top that was layered with a transparent raincoat. His experimentation with colour could be partly inspired by his recent collaborator Katharina Grosse’s rainbow boldness, but the excitement, the playfulness, the bounce? That is all his own.
