Sacai FW16 at Paris Fashion Week
Founded in 1998, Sacai is anything but a novice in the fashion game. At the helm of the house is fashion director Chitose Abe—protégée of Comme des Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo where she started as a pattern maker for the famed Japanese brand. Abe tells The Telegraph that it was her time with Kawakubo that taught her to trust her instincts and follow her gut.
It’s this advice that has stuck with Abe ever since and helped to shape her into the designer she is today—one that’s garnered Abe and Sacai global success. Gone are the days when fans of the brand’s experimental shapes and lush detailing could only pick up pieces in Japan. Now the pieces are sold everywhere from Net-a-Porter to Barney’s New York. This means that even Uncle Karl–who has affectionately referred to her as “one of the most interesting designers working today”–can get his Sacai-fix 24/7.
A multitude of rumours are currently surrounding Abe with regards to her future as fashion enthusiasts foresee a move to Paris, where the designer is anticipated to fill one of the vacant seats at fashion’s top houses. Whatever her destiny holds, we’re excited to see what Abe has in store.
