Host Minh-Khai Phan-Thi begins each episode by putting the following 4 questions to her guest:

Where are you from?

From St. Petersburg, in the former Soviet Union, which is now Russia and is rooted from my mother’s mum.

Is there a difference between homeland and home for you?

For me, there’s no such thing as home. If I’m to consider the positive connotations of this word, then I would use the Russian word “Rodina” but nothing else. My home within the “Rodina” are the people with whom I feel at home with.

What role does honesty play for you?

Let me give you an example: if you want to understand me, put me in every single drawer. Why not? I believe in taking a sincere interest in one another, whether its surrounding questions of origin or career issues. But I also believe that people are often unable to wouldn’t be able to answer their questions if the shoe was on the other foot. In my opinion,  if you are not able to live with either the questions or the answers, then you should leave them unsaid.

What question do you want to stop being asked?

There’s nothing that I want people to stop asking me.
